It's not recommended to store dry ice in a home freezer. The freezer's thermostat may shut the unit off, and a freezer won't meaningfully slow sublimation. An insulated cooler in a ventilated area is better.
Placing dry ice in a non-working freezer to keep food frozen is a common, reasonable use — see the power outage guide for safe placement.
Never store dry ice in a walk-in freezer or cold room where people enter. CO₂ can accumulate in enclosed spaces.
Dry ice releases carbon dioxide gas and requires proper ventilation. Handle only with insulated gloves, and never seal it in an airtight container.
