Frozen vs cold
Dry ice will freeze drinks and produce if they touch it. For items you want cold but not frozen, separate them or use a second cooler with water ice.
Combining with regular ice
Some people put dry ice on the bottom of one cooler for frozen goods and water ice in another for drinks.
Cooler compatibility
Check your cooler maker's guidance on dry ice, and never lock the lid airtight.
Dry ice releases carbon dioxide gas and requires proper ventilation. Handle only with insulated gloves, and never seal it in an airtight container.
